Perfect fit vs normal blinds: which do you need?
Perfect fit blinds clip into the frame of a uPVC window with no drilling, sit flat against the glass and move with the window when it opens. Normal blinds are screwed to the wall or frame and suit any window. Choose perfect fit for tilt-and-turn windows, conservatories and rented homes; choose normal blinds for everything else, because they cost less.
| Perfect fit | Normal blind | |
|---|---|---|
| How it's fixed | Clips into the rubber bead of a uPVC window. No drilling. | Screwed to the wall, the ceiling or the window frame. |
| Tilt-and-turn windows | Moves with the window, so it opens and tilts with the blind on. | Has to be raised before the window opens. |
| Gaps round the edge | Sits inside the glass, so very little light gets round it. | Some light at the sides, more on a recess fit. |
| Cords | None hanging: the blind is held in the frame. | A chain or cord, fixed with a safety cleat. |
| Windows it suits | uPVC only. | Any window: wood, metal, uPVC, bays. |

When perfect fit is the right one
- Tilt-and-turn windows. A normal blind has to come up every time the window opens. A perfect fit blind goes with it.
- Conservatories. Lots of uPVC, often nowhere sensible to screw a bracket.
- Renting. No holes to fill when you leave.
- Bedrooms where light matters. With the blind inside the glass, little light gets round the sides.
When a normal blind is better
- Wooden, metal or sash windows. There is no uPVC bead to clip into.
- Wide windows and bays. One blind across a run of panes, rather than a frame on each.
- Windows that never open. You would be paying for a feature you won't use.
- Budget. A normal roller starts at less than half the price.
Questions
Are perfect fit blinds worth the extra money?
On uPVC tilt-and-turn windows, in a conservatory, or if you rent and can't drill, yes. On an ordinary window where drilling is fine, a normal roller or venetian does the same job for less.
Do perfect fit blinds need drilling?
No. The frame pushes into the rubber bead that holds the glass in a uPVC window. Nothing is screwed into the wall or the window.
Can I have perfect fit blinds on wooden windows?
No. They need the bead of a uPVC window to clip into. For wooden or metal windows we fit a normal blind instead.
Which types come in a perfect fit frame?
Roller, pleated and venetian blinds. Vertical blinds and shutters don't.
Can I mix them in one house?
Yes, and it's common: perfect fit on the tilt-and-turn windows and the conservatory, normal blinds everywhere else. We'll say which suits each window at the consultation.
